ZUMBA Fun! | CIS at Tanglewood’s Program Activities

The T-6 Group at Tanglewood Middle School is focusing on keeping our minds and bodies strong and healthy. As a part of this process the group is participating in Zumba Fitness with Ms. Kari Garzon from Studio SI.

The young ladies have been working out using Zumba, and they really enjoy the high energy, fast-paced fitness program. Zumba Fitness allows them to see that you can have fun while exercising and get in shape to be healthy.

Health and fitness play a big role in the growth in development of our youth. In 2009, the state of Texas implemented a study called “the fitnessgram” for 2.4 million kids ages 8 to 18. The idea of the study was to help combat the state’s high childhood obesity rates. After one year using “the fitnessgram” Texas school officials said kids performed better on standardized tests, fitness rates rose, absentee rates dropped, and so did reports of discipline problems. At the top performing schools where 90% of the students passed state assessment tests, 80% of the students were considered to be physically fit. At the poorest performing schools only 40 % made the fitness grade. CLICK HERE to learn more about the “Teach A Healthy Body, Get A Healthy Mind” concept.

These facts support the belief that the harder a student is pushed to become more physically fit, the harder they will push themselves academically. The Zumba Fitness program for the T-6 group is a good start for improving these young ladies, both physically and mentally!
